Close-Up Magic

Close-up magic is the most personal magic there is. No stage, no distance, no smoke and mirrors. Just astonishing sleight of hand happening inches from your eyes, often in your own hands. It is David Linacre’s signature, and the reason guests spend the rest of the evening trying to work out what they just saw.

A member of The Magic Circle, David blends sleight of hand, mind reading and a touch of psychology into a style of close-up magic that feels less like a performance and more like the impossible unfolding right in front of you.

Magic You Can Almost Touch

There is nowhere to hide in close-up magic, and that is exactly what makes it so powerful. A borrowed ring, a signed card, an ordinary coin. In David’s hands the everyday becomes baffling, performed so close that guests are certain they will catch how it is done. They never do.

Perfect

Perfect for Any Occasion

Because close-up magic needs no stage or set-up, it fits effortlessly into any event. David moves through the room performing for small groups as he goes, whether that is around the tables at a wedding breakfast, among guests at a drinks reception, or across a busy corporate floor. Everyone gets a front-row seat.

Sleight of Hand, and a Little Mind Reading

David’s close-up magic is not only about what his hands can do. Woven through every set is an element of mind reading and subtle psychology, the same craft he brings to corporate audiences as a mentalist. A thought you never said aloud. A choice you were certain was free. A detail he could not possibly have known. It is this blend of impossible skill and genuine mystery that keeps guests talking long after the cards are away, and it is what sets David apart from a standard trick-by-trick act.

Close-Up Magic FAQ'S

What is close-up magic?
Magic performed right in front of you, in your own hands, with everyday objects like cards, coins and rings. No stage, no distance, just the impossible at arm’s length.
Yes. Alongside sleight of hand, David weaves in mind reading and mentalism, adding an extra layer of genuine mystery to every performance. It is the same craft he brings to corporate stages as a mentalist.

David’s repertoire blends classic sleight of hand with strikingly modern magic. Alongside cards, coins and borrowed jewellery, he performs astonishing tech magic that unfolds without ever touching your phone: a celebrity you search for is revealed in an impossible way, a song you were only thinking of starts playing on your own Spotify as the volume rises, or a number you freely tap into your calculator matches a note written long beforehand. His card work includes a signed card that changes in your own hands, a signed card that rises again and again to the top of the deck, and ink that visibly moves across the back of a card to spell out the one you chose. A borrowed ring sealed inside a card box vanishes and reappears on a keyring zipped inside his wallet. A signed coin transforms into another coin, still carrying your signature. Every routine is chosen to suit your event and your guests.

Yes. Close-up magic works at weddings, corporate events, parties and dinners, anywhere guests are gathered.
David performs for small groups at a time as he moves around the room, so it works for any size of event.
